Homebirth Midwifery & Well Woman Care
Referrals and Unexpected Situations
At Mother Me Midwifery, we aim to guide you through a healthy pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum. However, sometimes conditions arise that warrant collaboration with medical care providers, referrals, or a transfer of care. Examples include uncontrolled gestational diabetes, persistent high blood pressure, labor before 36 weeks or after 43 weeks gestation, signs of infection, fetal distress, suspected placental abruption, an outbreak of herpes at the time of labor, and persistent anemia. In addition, there could be other medical conditions that may make homebirth less than optimal for delivery.

A transfer of care may occur at any time during your care, including your birth or postpartum, known as transport. You may specify your choice of hospital and available provider, and your midwife will try to honor your wishes. Your midwife will accompany you when transport becomes necessary during labor to ensure a smooth transition of your clinical care.
However, it may not be reasonable for your midwife to remain with you at the hospital. We strongly encourage you to hire a doula for continuous emotional, physical, and informational support.
